Those with diabetes are more susceptible to changes at the back of the eyes (diabetic retinopathy), so retinal screening programmes have been set up to detect any changes early so they can be managed accordingly. The Burton practice is part of the Staffordshire diabetic retinopathy screening programme and undertakes screening for those who are eligible. Visit www.retinalscreening.nhs.uk to find out more about screening and your local programme. For more information on diabetes and how it affects the eyes, visit www.diabetes.org.

Diabetic eye screening should be performed in addition to normal eye examinations. Both can be done at the Burton practice if you are part of the Staffordshire screening system. If you are not registered to Staffordshire, both our Burton and Swadlincote practices can provide you with a thorough eye examination funded by the NHS. To book an appointment click here
